Long before it became one of Britain’s most iconic endurance events, this landscape was a route of pilgrims, traders and travellers. Race to the Stones follows the ancient Ridgeway National Trail, often described as Britain’s oldest road, weaving through the rolling chalk hills of the North Wessex Downs toward the mysterious Neolithic stone circle at Avebury.
Every mile tells a story. From sweeping ridgelines and open farmland to quiet woodlands and timeless villages, the route reveals a landscape shaped by thousands of years of history. The finish at Avebury, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is more than the end of a journey—it is an arrival at one of Europe’s most remarkable prehistoric monuments, where enormous standing stones have watched over the countryside for over 4,500 years.
